Chemguide: Support for CIE A level Chemistry Learning outcome 8.1 Reaction kinetics Rate of reaction Statement 8.1.3 This statement is about the practical side of rates of reaction. Before you go on, you should find and read the statement in your copy of the syllabus. You will find what you need on the page finding orders of reaction experimentally. This is a long page, and almost certainly contains more than you need - you don't, for example, need to know about orders of reaction until the second year of the course. You are most likely to be asked to do this in Paper 3, the practical paper. There isn't enough time in a theory paper to be able to process results graphically. If you look through as many past papers and mark schemes as you can, you will find that there is normally a rate question on at least one of the different paper 3 options each year. In all the papers I looked at (before I got completely bored with it!), you were told exactly what measure of rate of reaction you should plot.
